Hispanic male Mark Facio, 33, was fatally shot on the evening of Sunday, August 24, 2025, in the Independence Plaza neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri. The incident occurred just after 7:00 p.m. near the intersection of Sixth Street and Park Avenue. Officers from the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, they discovered Facio suffering from gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigations by assault squad detectives and crime scene personnel indicated that the violence stemmed from an interaction between Facio and another individual in the street, which escalated into gunfire. Emergency medical responders from the Kansas City Fire Department transported Facio to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, hospital staff notified police that he succumbed to his injuries just before 10:00 p.m. that same evening.
