Upon their arrival, officers discovered Richardson lying unresponsive in the street near East
58th Street and Askew Avenue, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite attempts by law enforcement and emergency medical personnel to render aid, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. A preliminary investigation suggests that Richardson had an interaction with multiple male suspects that escalated, leading to the shooting. After the gunfire, the suspects fled in an unknown direction and have not yet been identified.
Known lovingly as "Alex" to his friends and family, Alexzander David Richardson-Diaz was born on November 9, 2006, in Kansas City. A recent graduate of the KIPP Legacy High School class of 2025, he was working as a package handler at FedEx with dreams of buying his first car. He was known for his kindness, his love for his family, and the strong bond he shared with his twin sister.
