On a late Friday afternoon, September 8, 2017, the life of 36-year-old Marcell T. Smith, a Black man from Kansas City, Missouri, was tragically cut short. Smith was found shot near East 54th Street and Park Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marked the 106th homicide in Kansas City that year.
