On the evening of Friday, May 8, 2009, 14-year-old Michael Goulbourne was working at a family-operated food stand in St. Louis, Missouri. The teenager, an eighth-grade student at Normandy Middle School, was assisting with closing duties at the 'Mi Hungry' barbecue stand located in the 1200 block of North Kingshighway. Around 8:30 p.m., as he and a 51-year-old male co-worker were securing the business for the night, a vehicle pulled into the lot.
Two to three unknown Black male suspects
exited the vehicle and approached the stand, announcing a robbery. Michael and his co-worker complied with the assailants' demands, handing over cash and jewelry in hopes of diffusing the situation. Despite their cooperation, the robbers opened fire before fleeing the scene. Michael was struck by the gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 51-year-old man working alongside him was shot in the hand and was later listed in stable condition at a local hospital.
The homicide investigation was handled by the St. Louis Police Department. As of recent updates from regional crime tracking databases, the case remains classified as an open and unsolved homicide. No arrests have been reported in connection with the shooting, and detectives have continued to seek information regarding the identities of the men who fled the scene after the fatal robbery.
