However, in September 2022, a significant breakthrough occurred when Feng Lu, a former co-worker of Maoye Sun, was arrested and charged with capital murder. Lu, who had been considered a suspect since the initial investigation, was linked to the crime through newly tested DNA evidence found on Mei Xie's purse. According to court documents, Lu had been disgruntled over not receiving a promotion at work and believed that Maoye Sun had made derogatory comments about him to colleagues.
