Nikhat Kamdar, a 37-year-old woman from Sugar Land, Texas, was tragically killed on May 5, 2014, in what authorities have determined to be a murder-suicide. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning at the Kamdar family residence located in the 4800 block of Russett Lane. According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, an emergency call was made by the couple's 15-year-old daughter, who was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the front yard.
Inside the home, deputies discovered the bodies of Nikhat Kamdar and her husband, Karim Kamdar, aged 46, along with their 11-year-old son, who had also sustained gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Karim Kamdar used a handgun to murder his wife, Nikhat Kamdar, before turning the gun on their two children and then himself. Both children were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital via LifeFlight, where they underwent surgery and were later listed in stable condition. Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute, and no evidence has suggested the involvement of a third-party assailant. The Kamdar family was well-known in their community, with Nikhat Kamdar owning a daycare center called American Heritage Academy and Child Care in Rosenberg, and Karim Kamdar having operated the Superway Food store in Richmond for nearly 12 years.
