Angel Celso Reyes, a 39-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on May 27, 2014, in Houston, Texas. Reyes was fatally shot in the parking lot of Club Sofia, located at 1325 Sheffield Boulevard, around 6:20 a.m. on May 9, 2014. The incident occurred after Reyes got into an argument with 24-year-old Daniel Joseph Silva, who then drove his dark-blue Honda towards Reyes and another man, Josue Garza, hitting them both.
Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene, while Garza was taken to a nearby hospital with a broken arm.
Silva exited his vehicle, approached Reyes, and fired at least six shots at him before fleeing the scene. Investigators later identified Silva as the suspect and arrested him on May 22, 2014. During questioning, Silva confessed to his role in the incident. He was charged with murder in the 209th State District Court.
The case drew significant attention, and the club's owners voluntarily surrendered their permit to sell beer and wine to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, which had suspended the club's license for seven days following the shooting. Silva's arrest and confession provided closure to Reyes' family and the community, although the loss of Reyes was deeply felt by those who knew him.
