In the early hours of March 2, 2026, a young life was tragically cut short in a southwest Houston apartment complex. Jose Luis Escobar Hernandez, a 21-year-old male, was found suffering from a gunshot wound at approximately 2:15 a.m. at 9707 South Gessner Road. Houston Police Department patrol officers responded to the scene following a shooting call and discovered the injured man.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched, and paramedics from the Houston Fire Department provided
immediate medical attention to Escobar Hernandez. He was then transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the fatal shooting was launched by the HPD Homicide Division. Through their diligent work, investigators were able to identify a suspect in the case. This led them to 35-year-old Milton Eleazar Hernandez-Lopez. On Tuesday, March 10, officers with HPD's South Gessner Patrol Division's Crime Suppression Team successfully located and arrested Hernandez-Lopez.
Following his arrest, Hernandez-Lopez was questioned by detectives. During the interrogation, he reportedly admitted to his involvement in the shooting incident that led to the death of Jose Luis Escobar Hernandez. Subsequently, the Harris County District Attorney's Office was consulted, and Hernandez-Lopez was charged with murder. He was then booked into the Harris County Jail.
