DeAndre D.L. Liggins, a 21-year-old African American male from Cypress, TX, tragically lost his life on July 3, 2014. DeAndre was known for his athletic prowess and was a graduate of Cypress Ranch High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He was also pursuing a track and field scholarship at Texas State University.
On the day of his death, DeAndre met with an individual in the parking lot of a CVS Pharmacy at 8960 Barker Cypress Road to sell drugs.
The situation escalated when the buyer attempted to rob DeAndre, leading to a struggle over a handgun. During the altercation, DeAndre was shot and later pronounced dead at North Cypress Medical Center.
Following the incident, two suspects, Arevha Oshotse and Frederick Osbey , were charged with capital murder. They were accused of attempting to rob DeAndre, which resulted in his fatal shooting. Both suspects were held without bail and were scheduled to appear in court later that year.
The loss of DeAndre D.L. Liggins was deeply felt by his family, friends, and the community, who remembered him as a talented young man with a bright future ahead of him.
