On January 30, 2014, the bodies of Maoye Sun , Mei Xie , and their sons, 9-year-old Timothy Sun and 7-year-old Titus Xiao Sun, were discovered in their home in Cypress, Texas. The family had been shot to death, and the case quickly became a mystery. The Harris County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation but struggled to find conclusive evidence or suspects.
In September 2022, nearly eight years after the tragic incident, Feng Lu, a former co-worker of Maoye Sun, was arrested in
San Francisco and charged with capital murder. The breakthrough came after new forensic testing linked Lu's DNA to a purse belonging to Mei Xie. Investigators believe Lu, who had been considered a suspect early on, may have been motivated by a workplace grievance. Lu had reportedly been upset about not receiving a promotion and believed Maoye Sun had made derogatory comments about him to colleagues.
The case remains a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of unresolved murders on families and communities. The Houston Chinese Alliance organized a vigil for the Sun family, reflecting the deep concern and solidarity within the local Chinese-American community.
Despite the arrest, the investigation continues as authorities seek to build a comprehensive case against Feng Lu and uncover the full extent of his involvement in the tragic deaths of the Sun family.
