Jonathan Cook, a 27-year-old male of African American ethnicity from Austin, Texas, tragically died on July 18, 2014. He was celebrating his 27th birthday when he was shot and killed by a motel security guard named Robert Earl Goins II. The incident occurred after a disturbance at the Budget Lodge Hotel on Rundberg Lane. According to police reports, Goins claimed he fired the shots because Cook was damaging his car.
