Siryon Ishmael, a 58-year-old male of African American ethnicity, was tragically shot and killed on September 28, 2014, in southwest Houston, Texas. Ishmael, who worked as a cab driver, was found outside his home in the 9600 block of Azeem around 11:30 p.m. According to reports, he had just arrived home from work and stepped out of his car when he was confronted by an unknown assailant.
His roommate reported hearing gunfire, while a neighbor claimed to have heard shouting and someone demanding money before the shooting occurred.
The investigation into Ishmael's death revealed that he was shot once and later transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Houston Police Department launched an extensive investigation, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification of the suspect. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5'5" to 5'8" tall, with a thin build and a southern accent, believed to be between 18 and 20 years old.
In July 2017, nearly three years after Ishmael's death, Rodney Glover, a 32-year-old male, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting. Glover was identified as the suspect through further investigation, and he was charged in the 337th State District Court. The arrest brought some closure to Ishmael's family, who had been seeking justice for their loved one.
