On July 2, 2024, 25-year-old Tanesha Aleese Richards was found deceased in her condominium at the Idlewood Complex near Westpark and Gessner in Houston, Texas. Her death was the tragic culmination of a series of harrowing events involving alleged stalking and harassment.
In December 2023, Richards filed a police report with the Houston Police Department, expressing fear for her safety due to persistent threats from a man named Bruce Wayne Gerard.
She reported receiving between 44 and 88 missed calls from Gerard, along with multiple text messages in which he threatened physical harm and demonstrated knowledge of her previous residences. Richards conveyed to the officers her deep concern that Gerard might discover her current address, stating she was "scared for her life."
On the evening of her death, surveillance footage captured Gerard at Richards' condominium. The video showed him listening at her door, ringing the doorbell repeatedly, and pacing for approximately 12 minutes. When Richards slightly opened the door, Gerard forcefully pushed his way inside, assaulting her in the process. He remained in the apartment for three to four minutes before leaving. A neighbor, alarmed by the disturbance, called 911, leading to the discovery of Richards' body.
Following the incident, Gerard was arrested on July 5, 2024, and charged with capital murder in connection with Richards' death. A search of his vehicle revealed a handwritten plan detailing methods to locate Richards using her Social Security number and phone records. Additionally, a note stating, "I will find Tanesha Richards," was found, along with her tax returns and a photograph of her inscribed with, "No weapon, no evil eye, no curse of the 3rd party will work, and no person can control or stop us." At the time of his arrest, Gerard was on parole for a 2005 aggravated assault with a deadly weapon conviction, for which he had been sentenced to 20 years in prison. He is currently being held without bond.
Richards' untimely death has left her family and friends in deep mourning. She was cherished by her parents, Felipe and Melissa Richards, and her siblings, Dondrell, Felipe Jr., and Anesia Richards. A Celebration of Life was held on July 27, 2024, at Walker Funeral Home and Cremation in Lillington, North Carolina, to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to establish a memorial scholarship in Tanesha's name.
