On the day of his death, Wartell was caught in the crossfire of a gunfight between a 16-year-old boy and an adult man during an argument outside the laundromat. Attempting to escape the gunfire, he ran inside the laundromat and collapsed.
The 16-year-old suspect was arrested on April 3, 2015, and charged with murder. Due to his status as a juvenile, his identity was not disclosed.
