Richard Martin, a 47-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on May 18, 2015, in Houston, Texas. Officer Martin was intentionally struck and killed by a vehicle while he was setting up spike strips at the intersection of North Kirkwood Road and St. Mary's Lane during a high-speed vehicle pursuit. The pursuit began after the suspect, Jeffrey Ryan Conlin, carjacked a U-Haul van in North Houston and fired several shots at officers during the chase.
