In the late afternoon of Friday, November 7, 2025, a grim discovery was made in a parking lot on Blalock Road in the Spring Branch area of Houston, Texas. Gerardo Villalobos Salgado, a 50-year-old man, was found inside a vehicle, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced him deceased.
The car in which he was found was parked near a food truck, though it remains unclear if this location holds any significance to the events that transpired.
Houston Police Department's Homicide Division immediately began an investigation into the shooting. Initially, authorities reported no known motive or suspect in the case. However, their investigation led them to identify 41-year-old Edwin Leonel Caal Gill as the suspect in the death of Villalobos Salgado. On Thursday, November 13, 2025, a murder charge was filed against Caal Gill in the 185th Criminal District Court.
Despite the charges being filed, Edwin Leonel Caal Gill remains at large. The Houston Police Department has released a previous booking photo of Caal Gill and is asking for the public's assistance in locating him. Investigators have not yet released details regarding a possible motive for the shooting or the nature of any relationship between the victim and the suspect. Authorities are urging anyone with information on Caal Gill's whereabouts or any other details concerning the case to come forward.
