Mott, a 20-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri, died on October 2, 2010, after a night that began like so many weekends in the Crossroads — crowded sidewalks, late music, and the loose, buzzy energy that hangs around after First Friday. Sometime after midnight, trouble broke out inside Balanca's near 18th Street and Grand Boulevard, and what started as a fight didn't stay contained.
