Dwayne Clifford Jackson Jr., a 10-year-old boy from Houston, Texas, tragically lost his life on August 8, 2015. He was one of the six children and two adults killed in a horrific mass shooting carried out by David Ray Conley III, who was 48 years old at the time. The incident took place in northern Harris County, Texas, near Houston. Conley, who had a dispute with his ex-girlfriend Valerie Jackson, broke into her home and held her, her husband Dwayne Jackson Sr., and their six children hostage.
Over the course of nine hours, Conley shot and killed the entire family before engaging in a shootout with responding police officers.
David Ray Conley III was arrested and charged with multiple counts of capital murder. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case drew significant attention due to the brutality of the crime and the fact that the family had a history with Child Protective Services , which had investigated complaints about their care dating back to 2011. Despite these investigations, the children were returned to their home by March 2014.
