Antonio Gutierrez Garcia III, a 25-year-old Hispanic male from Mission, Texas, was tragically found deceased on September 11, 2015, in Lubbock County. His body was discovered just before 11 a.m., approximately half a mile south of FM 1585 on County Road 2700 in southeast Lubbock County. The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. At the time of his death, the 25-year-old Hispanic male was described as 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds, with short black hair and a well-groomed goatee.
He was wearing a white T-shirt with "Brand Energy Solutions" printed on the front, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes.
In the early hours of the same day, around 5:45 a.m., a grey 2012 four-door Nissan Altima registered to the victim was found fully engulfed in flames in the 4300 block of East 2nd Street in East Lubbock County. Investigators believe the vehicle was deliberately set on fire by individuals connected to the homicide.
Subsequent investigations led the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office to identify two individuals of interest: Johnathan Herrera, 28, and Melissa Cortez, 26. Both were arrested on September 13, 2015, and were held on various charges, including attempted capital murder. Authorities sought information regarding their activities between September 5 and September 13, 2015, suspecting their involvement in both the homicide and the arson of the victim's vehicle.
Despite these developments, as of December 15, 2015, the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office continued to seek additional information to further the investigation. The case remains open, with law enforcement urging anyone with relevant details to come forward.
