Anthony Michael Martinez, a 28-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from San Angelo, Texas, tragically lost his life on September 12, 2016. He was fatally shot at a residence in the 1000 block of Rio Grande Street. The incident occurred when four individuals, including Raymond Alvarado Jr., Justin Gamez, Krystal Nicole Lerma, and Ricky Ray Zuniga, forcibly entered the home with the intent to rob the residents.
During the altercation, both Anthony Martinez and Jimmy Andrew Gonzales, another 28-year-old male, were shot and later pronounced dead at Shannon Medical Center.
Following the incident, the San Angelo Police Department launched an extensive investigation. Raymond Alvarado Jr. was captured in Lansing, Michigan, in December 2016 after evading arrest for several months. The other suspects, Justin Gamez, Krystal Nicole Lerma, and Ricky Ray Zuniga, were arrested shortly after the incident. All four suspects were indicted on capital murder charges. Raymond Alvarado Jr. eventually pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The cases against the other suspects are still pending in court.
