Jacob "Kimo" Ray Hernandez, a 29-year-old Hispanic male from San Angelo, Texas, tragically passed away on May 26, 2021. Jacob was well-loved in his community and had a passion for sports, particularly softball, basketball, football, and washers. He was remembered fondly by his family, friends, and the entire community for his kind and loving nature.
Jacob's death was the result of a shooting incident at his apartment in the 2400 block of Lillie Street.
Police arrived at the scene around 3:24 a.m. and found Jacob with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. The investigation revealed that two individuals, wearing face coverings and garments to hide their identities, entered Jacob's apartment and left shortly after the shooting. A backpack left behind at the scene contained a necklace with a photo, which led investigators to a suspect.
The investigation led to the arrest of Francisco Josiah Morales, a 17-year-old from Abilene, Texas, on June 17, 2021. Morales was found with an Adidas backpack and clothing matching the description of one of the suspects seen in video surveillance. Further investigation revealed that Morales had taken a vehicle without consent and exchanged property with another man, which connected him to the crime.
Additional suspects were arrested in connection with Jacob's murder. David Alexander Rodriguez, a 23-year-old from San Angelo, was arrested on January 21, 2022, and faced the death penalty for his involvement. Eric Anthony Aguillon and Amethyst Aliyah Deanda, both residents of Abilene, were also arrested and charged with the murder. Morales eventually pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of murder on December 17, 2024.
The case remains a significant and tragic event in the San Angelo community, and the legal proceedings continue to unfold as the suspects face the consequences of their actions.
