During the altercation, the suspect shot Petty, who was then transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The suspect in the case was described as a stocky black male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, wearing a dark gray sweatshirt, black shorts, and red and white tennis shoes. Despite the presence of customers and employees in the restaurant at the time of the incident, no other injuries were reported. The Killeen Police Department launched an investigation into the murder, but the suspect has not yet been located. The police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers, offering a reward for tips leading to an arrest.
Nearly three years after the incident, the case remains unsolved. William Petty's mother, Barbara Naron, continues to seek justice for her son's murder, expressing her frustration and sorrow over the lack of progress in the investigation.
