On June 12, 2012, police officers in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to the 81st Street and Garfield Avenue area following reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, responders located a Black male victim, identified as 19-year-old Artreze L. Dorsey, lying on the ground in front of a residence at 8040 Garfield Avenue. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was in critical condition when authorities found him.
