On August 20, 2017, 37-year-old Jorge Alberto Torres was fatally shot at a 7-Eleven gas station in Southeast Dallas, Texas. Torres was approached by three teenagers while he was filling up his car. The suspects attempted to rob him, and during the altercation, they shot Torres in the head. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Torres succumbed to his injuries.
The suspects, identified as teenagers, fled the scene on foot, heading towards a nearby apartment complex.
Surveillance video from the 7-Eleven captured one of the suspects inside the store before the incident. The Dallas Police Department released the video in hopes of identifying the perpetrators. One of the suspects, 17-year-old Jayden Blanton, was later identified as the shooter. Blanton was also a suspect in a separate robbery at a Valero gas station in Cedar Hill.
The investigation into Torres' murder involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Dallas Police Department and the Cedar Hill Police Department. Detective Derick Chaney led the investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward. Despite the efforts, the case remains a tragic reminder of the dangers of late-night gas station visits.
