On December 1, 2021, 22-year-old Sergio Maas was fatally shot in his apartment at the Spanish Village apartments on Sumter Drive, near Bachman Lake in Dallas, TX. Maas, a male of Hispanic ethnicity, was found in his living room with multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred just before 4 a.m., when Maas and another person in the apartment heard what they believed to be drilling or a weed eater coming from the parking lot. Maas then looked outside and saw people around his silver Toyota Sequoia. He grabbed his keys, went to his balcony, and turned on his car alarm. The other person in the apartment heard someone say, "die dog," followed by 3-5 gunshots. Maas was hit by the gunfire and fell back into the apartment. Despite immediate medical attention, Maas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe that the shooting was related to a catalytic converter theft. Maas' car had not been broken into, but the catalytic converter had been cut out. During the investigation, Dallas police found video evidence supporting the statements of the witnesses. Shell casings found in the backyard of a home linked to the suspects matched those used in the shooting. One of the suspects, Juvencio Solorzano, was identified as the likely shooter. Another suspect, 18-year-old Isabel Campbell, was charged with capital murder in Maas' death. Campbell was found to have been at the crime scene and in the immediate area at the time of the offense. She was held on a $2 million bond.

The investigation into Sergio Maas' death involved multiple arrests and ongoing legal proceedings. The suspects were linked to the crime through cell phone data and other evidence collected during the investigation. The case remains a significant focus for Dallas police as they continue to seek justice for Maas and his family.
