Chalyn Dwight Stewart, a 25-year-old male of African American ethnicity, tragically lost his life on July 28, 2018, in Houston, Texas. Stewart was employed at a car wash where he had an ongoing dispute with his manager, Logan Sheffield. The conflict escalated when Sheffield, after an argument at Stewart's apartment complex, left to retrieve a handgun and returned to the scene.
He then fatally shot Stewart in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
Sheffield was later arrested and charged with murder. In May 2023, he pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 30 years in prison in August 2023.
