On February 11, 2019, 59-year-old Hispanic male Magdaleno Reyes was fatally shot in Houston, Texas. At approximately 10 a.m., while assisting his wife with her disabled vehicle near the intersection of T.C. Jester Boulevard and Holder Forest Drive, Reyes was approached by assailants. During this encounter, he was shot, and his wallet and cell phone were stolen. Houston Police Department's Mobility Response Team personnel discovered Reyes lying on the sidewalk, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite prompt attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage released by the Houston Police Department depicted a gray Toyota Camry arriving at the intersection. A male suspect exited the passenger side, approached Reyes, and then quickly returned to the vehicle before it fled northbound on T.C. Jester. The vehicle, bearing Texas license plates HHT-1888, was later found abandoned in the 3900 block of Creekmont Drive. Investigators determined that the car had been reported stolen prior to the incident.
The suspects were described as three males. One individual was believed to be either Black or Hispanic, in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighing between 140 to 150 pounds. Despite the release of surveillance video and public appeals for information, the assailants remained unidentified in the immediate aftermath of the crime.
Reyes was remembered by his family as a hardworking father of two who owned and operated a commercial painting company. His niece, Arlette Escobar, expressed the family's grief and disbelief over the senseless nature of the crime, emphasizing their desire for justice and urging anyone with information to come forward.
In the years following the incident, there were no publicly available reports indicating that arrests had been made or suspects identified in connection with the murder of 59-year-old Hispanic male Magdaleno Reyes. The case remains unresolved, and authorities continue to seek information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible.
