Roy Eugene "Ikie" Bunton, a 19-year-old male of African American ethnicity, disappeared on August 21, 1972, while hitchhiking to his job at a shoe store in Houston, Texas. His body was later discovered on August 8, 1973, in a mass grave in Dean Corll's boat shed. Bunton was one of at least 28 victims of Corll's sadistic killing spree, which took place in the early 1970s.
Corll, along with his teenage accomplices Elmer Wayne Henley Jr. and David Brooks, kidnapped, tortured, and murdered young men and boys. Henley and Brooks were eventually convicted of the murders and remain in prison. Corll's killing spree ended when Henley killed him in August 1973.
The investigation into Bunton's death and the subsequent trials of Henley and Brooks brought to light the horrifying extent of Corll's crimes. The identification of Bunton's body through DNA and circumstantial evidence in 2011 provided some closure to his family, although the case remains a tragic reminder of the dangers young people faced during that time.
