Anthony D'Andre Sanks, a 30-year-old African American man from San Antonio, Texas, tragically lost his life on January 7, 2020. Sanks was fatally shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 8800 block of Cinnamon Creek Drive. The incident occurred during what was believed to be a plan between Sanks and his killer, John Anthony Scharringhausen, to commit a violent crime together.
According to police reports, Scharringhausen, who was 22 years old at the time, had previously
attempted to kill another man in June 2019. The intended target of that attack made peace with Scharringhausen, who then allegedly convinced him to retaliate against Sanks. On the night of the murder, Scharringhausen lured Sanks to the apartment complex parking lot under the pretense of committing a crime together. Instead, Scharringhausen shot Sanks multiple times, resulting in his death.
John Anthony Scharringhausen was arrested on February 10, 2020, and charged with murder. He was later convicted and sentenced to 40 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Anthony Sanks. During the trial, it was revealed that Scharringhausen had exchanged multiple messages and phone calls with Sanks on January 6, 2020, discussing their plans. The last text message from Scharringhausen to Sanks was sent just minutes before the shooting occurred.
In addition to Scharringhausen, another suspect, Anthony Nash, was also arrested and charged with murder in connection with Sanks's death. Nash, who was 20 years old at the time, was believed to have been involved in the shooting. Both Scharringhausen and Nash were implicated in the murder, with Scharringhausen admitting to luring Sanks out of his apartment and into the parking lot, while Nash was believed to have carried out the actual shooting.
