African American Felita A. Davis, a 42-year-old medical assistant and mother of two, was driving her black 2014 Chevrolet Impala on the evening of September 4, 2014, in St. Louis, Missouri. Around 7:30 p.m., she was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 near the East Grand Avenue exit when a light-colored vehicle, described by witnesses as possibly a Pontiac Firebird or Camaro with a loud muffler, pulled alongside her car.
Occupants in the adjacent vehicle opened fire, discharging an assault rifle into the driver's side of Davis’s car. She sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her upper chest, arm, and buttocks. Despite her injuries, she managed to slow the vehicle, which eventually came to rest on the center median of the highway near mile marker 247.4. Emergency responders transported her to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Davis was known for her vibrant personality and love for roller skating, and she had been employed at Missouri Baptist Hospital and SSM facilities in North County.
As of the last available updates, the homicide remained an open and unsolved case. Witnesses described the shooter as an unknown Black male, but no specific suspects were publicly identified by name in the years following the incident.
