Birmingham detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred Friday night at George Ward Park.

Lt. Sean Edwards says the victim has been identified as 50-year-old McDaniel Watson of Birmingham.

Police say Watson was walking in the park with his wife when they were approached by an unknown black man who demanded Watson's wallet.

A shot was fired and struck Watson in the head.
