Jonathon Allen Hampton, a 24-year-old male from Killeen, Texas, was walking home with a friend from a convenience store in the early morning hours of September 14, 2020. The two had a brief encounter with one of the suspects at the store before continuing on their way through a residential neighborhood.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., as they walked in the 1300 block of Fairview Drive, a white car approached them. Two men got out and opened fire with a 9-mm pistol and a .223-caliber rifle. A witness reported hearing what sounded like fireworks before realizing it was a barrage of gunfire. Jonathon was struck in the head. He was airlifted to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple in critical condition and died from his injuries two days later, on September 16, 2020.

Detectives with the Killeen Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Unit investigated the case, recovering approximately 28 shell casings from the street. Investigators used witness statements, phone records, surveillance video, and social media clips to build their case. The phone records reportedly showed threatening exchanges involving the victim, and social media videos appeared to show the suspects waving firearms in a car just before the shooting.

The investigation led to the arrests of three men, who were all charged with murder. Antonio Trevon Edwards Hodges, 21, was identified as the driver of the car. Ahmad Elijah Jamel Demps, 21, and Tyshawn Vincente Navarro, 26, were identified as the men who fired the weapons. The bonds for Hodges and Demps were set at $1 million each, while Navarro’s was set at $500,000.

All three men were held accountable for Jonathon's death. In February 2026, Antonio Trevon Edwards Hodges pleaded guilty to murder, admitting he was the driver and was aware that a shooting was going to happen. In June 2026, a Bell County jury convicted Tyshawn Vincente Navarro of murder and sentenced him to 60 years in prison. Two months later, in August 2026, a separate jury found Ahmad Elijah Jamel Demps guilty of murder after less than two hours of deliberation. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
