On September 22, 2024, at approximately 12:39 a.m., Killeen Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 2200 block of Wheeler Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 22-year-old Dirkshawn Bryan Jr. lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures until paramedics arrived; however, Bryan succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Nicola James at 12:48 a.m.
An autopsy was ordered and performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
The Killeen Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division promptly began investigating the incident, marking the city's 17th murder of 2024.
