The incident occurred on the 400 block of Alpine Street in Killeen. According to police reports, Tristan arrived at a residence and had a verbal altercation with a woman. A male friend of the woman intervened and engaged in a physical altercation with Tristan.
After the two separated, Tristan displayed a knife, and the suspect retrieved a handgun and fired shots toward him. Despite officers performing life-saving measures, Tristan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tristan was known affectionately as "Mikey," "Jeremy," "MacGyver," and "Funnie Mann" and was a beloved member of his community. He was a father to two young children, Kylie and Jared Michael Jr., and was remembered for his passion for entrepreneurship, having recently opened a BBQ food truck called TNT BBQ. His life was celebrated by family and friends, who remembered him for his motto: "Peace, Positivity, Love, and Laughter".
