On the night of September 25, 2020, 18-year-old Damien Xavier Rocha-Torres was tragically shot and killed inside a residence in the 2500 block of Camp Cooper Drive in Killeen, Texas. Rocha-Torres was with a group of acquaintances when a loud noise was heard, prompting family members to rush into the room and find him suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by officers and paramedics, Rocha-Torres succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, the Killeen Police Department launched an investigation, which led to the identification of a 16-year-old male suspect. Detectives determined that the suspect had recklessly caused Rocha-Torres' death by shooting him and then concealing the firearm to impair its availability as evidence. The case was screened by the Bell County Attorney's Office's Juvenile Division, and a Directive to Apprehend was issued for manslaughter.
On November 17, 2020, the juvenile suspect was arrested and taken into custody. He was charged with manslaughter and is currently held in the Bell County Juvenile Detention Center.
