On the evening of March 6, 2015, violence erupted in a residential neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri, claiming the life of Dominique Cook, a 24-year-old Black male. The incident occurred outside a home located at 3041 College Avenue. Just before 7:40 p.m., the sound of gunfire prompted calls to emergency services, drawing police officers to the scene to investigate reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, first responders discovered Cook suffering from a gunshot wound to the
backside. He was found lying outside the residence, critically injured but still alive at the time of discovery. Emergency medical personnel quickly transported him to a local hospital for urgent treatment. Despite the life-saving measures attempted by medical staff, Cook succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the medical center.
The Kansas City Police Department launched a homicide investigation, canvassing the area for witnesses and evidence. At the time of the shooting, detectives noted that another murder had occurred in the same neighborhood the previous fall, though no direct link was immediately established. Investigators struggled to identify a shooter, stating early in the inquiry that there was no description of a suspect available. The case was eventually added to the department's list of unsolved homicides, with authorities offering a reward for information leading to an arrest, but no charges have been reported in connection with his death.
