On February 11, 2021, Charles Richard "Ricky" Bolf Jr., a 52-year-old White male, was fatally shot in Wichita Falls, Texas. Born on October 2, 1968, in Wichita Falls, Bolf was a lifelong resident known for his passion for motorcycles and dedication to his family. He was married to Jennifer and had four daughters: Jessica, Makayla, Samantha, and Charlie. He was also a grandfather to several grandchildren.
The incident occurred on Colleen Drive around 4:35 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found Bolf with gunshot wounds; he was transported to United Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. According to reports, Bolf had gone to the residence to confront his daughter's boyfriend, Alton Rhodes, 29, regarding a domestic dispute. An altercation ensued, during which Rhodes shot Bolf. Rhodes claimed self-defense, stating that Bolf and two other men had assaulted him before he fired the weapon.
Initially, Rhodes was detained and released pending further investigation. In April 2021, he was arrested and charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault. However, a grand jury later declined to indict him on the murder charge, leading to its dismissal. In September 2022, Rhodes pleaded guilty to reduced charges of aggravated assault and deadly conduct, receiving a suspended sentence.
Bolf's family remembered him as a man who would do anything for his loved ones. His father, Richard Bolf, recounted, "I could pick up the phone at 3 o'clock in the morning. 'Brother, I need you.' Bam he was there. No hesitation, no pause, no stop." His passion for motorcycles began at a young age, and he was known for building and painting his own bikes, as well as helping others with their vehicles.
A memorial service was held on March 4, 2021, at Broken Chains Freedom Church in Wichita Falls to honor Bolf's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made in his name to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
