Pablo Ibarra Melendez, a 25-year-old man from Odessa, Texas, tragically died on April 12, 2021. According to reports, Melendez was shot in the back of the head while driving west in the 4600 block of Papaw Street in Pleasant Farms. The incident occurred early in the morning, and Melendez was found dead inside his vehicle. The Ector County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the murder.
In connection with Melendez's death, Matthew Brian Roe, also 25 years old, was arrested and
later indicted in July 2021. Roe was found to have been sitting in the second row of a minivan when he shot Melendez. After the shooting, Roe fled the scene but was eventually apprehended by authorities. In November 2022, Roe pled guilty to murder and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
The case drew significant attention in the Odessa community, with family and friends mourning the loss of Melendez. The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings highlighted the tragic nature of the crime and the impact it had on those close to the victim.
