Chase Daniel Swain, a 16-year-old male from Houston, Texas, tragically passed away on April 21, 2021. The cause of death was an accidental shooting. Chase was with three other teenagers inside an abandoned home when the incident occurred. The group was handling a handgun, which accidentally discharged, hitting Chase in the chest. He was immediately transported to the hospital with critical injuries but was later pronounced dead.
The investigation revealed that the handgun had been
obtained by one of the teenagers, 17-year-old Sinardo Cooke, the previous night during a car burglary. Cooke was subsequently charged with manslaughter in connection with Chase's death. Cooke admitted to handling the gun when it went off, and he was arrested and booked in jail. The other three teenagers present at the scene were released to their families.
The incident took place in the 12800 block of Flagstaff Lane, near Beaumont Highway and South Lake Houston Parkway. The home where the shooting occurred had previously been damaged by fire and flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Deputies believe the teenagers were skipping school when they gathered at the abandoned home.
