Tydreun Felder, a 17-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on May 14, 2021, at the Trendwood Apartments in Waco, Texas. Felder, a student at University High School, was known for his contributions to both the football and basketball teams. He was described as a great young man with unlimited potential and an infectious smile.
The incident occurred just before 9 p.m., when Felder was shot in the abdomen.
He was immediately rushed to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest, but despite medical efforts, he did not survive. The Waco police confirmed that they were investigating his death as a murder, although no suspects were confirmed at the time.
As the investigation progressed, Waco police identified Paul Allen Hall as a suspect. Hall was charged with manslaughter, as it was determined that the shooting was unintentional. According to the affidavit, Hall claimed that the handgun he was handling had jammed, and while attempting to clear the jam, the weapon discharged again, resulting in Felder being shot. Hall was arrested on June 1, 2021, after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The community and the University High School family were deeply saddened by the loss of Felder. His coaches and teammates remembered him as a dedicated and hardworking player who always gave his all on the court and field. The tragic incident left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
