Steven Christopher Gambles II, a 32-year-old man from Plano, Texas, tragically lost his life on July 7, 2021. Gambles was on his way to meet a friend for dinner at the Shops at Legacy in Plano when he unknowingly passed Jordan Christopher Jacobs, a 25-year-old man from Plano. Jacobs, who had accused Gambles of staring at his girlfriend, decided to rob Gambles as punishment.
Jacobs went back to his apartment to change into a disguise, including a long sleeve security jacket, dark pants, and a mask.
Surveillance footage shows Jacobs circling and waiting for Gambles to return to his vehicle. When Gambles returned to his car, Jacobs confronted him, pointed a stolen firearm at Gambles' head, and shot him in the temple when he wouldn't cooperate. Gambles was found shortly before midnight with a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Jordan Christopher Jacobs was arrested on July 10, 2021, and charged with murder. Plano Police Department Detective Aaron Benzick investigated the case, using surveillance footage to track Jacobs back to his nearby apartment and identify him as the shooter. Jacobs was found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The jury's verdict triggered an automatic punishment for this senseless and terrible crime.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Calli Bailey and Marisa Dunagan, with assistance from District Attorney Investigator Mike Bennett and Victim Assistance Coordinator Casey Hendrix. The Collin County District Attorney's Office described the incident as a "senseless" murder.
