Lashundrick DaQuan McBrewer, a 23-year-old African American man from Lubbock, Texas, tragically lost his life on September 12, 2021. He was fatally shot in what was determined to be a drive-by shooting in the 1900 block of East Colgate Street. McBrewer was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lubbock Police Department responded to a shots fired call at 6:12 p.m. on the day of the incident.
An initial investigation suggested that McBrewer was the victim of a drive-by shooting, but the exact motive behind the violence was not immediately clear. The Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and it was revealed that four suspects were involved in the shooting.
Akkini McDade, a 19-year-old, was arrested on September 16, 2021, for third-degree felony deadly conduct, discharging a firearm. McDade was also charged with an unrelated assault against a family member. He was held on a $50,000 bond for the deadly conduct charge and an additional $75,000 bond for the assault. The investigation continued as the police sought four other individuals—Shaye Johnson , Shayn Johnson , Kenneth Johnson , and Tyroen Robinson —all wanted on third-degree felony charges for their involvement in the shooting.
The case remained open, with authorities encouraging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation was ongoing, and the police were actively seeking video evidence and the whereabouts of the four outstanding suspects. Information leading to an arrest was eligible for a $5,000 reward, and callers to the Crime Line could remain anonymous.
Lashundrick McBrewer's death was a tragic event that shook the community, and the efforts to bring justice for him continued as the investigation progressed.
