Ronald Sepeda Sr., a 57-year-old Hispanic male, passed away on January 10, 2020, in Lubbock, Texas. His death was the result of a fatal shooting that occurred at a home in Central Lubbock. The incident took place in the 1500 block of 25th Street, where Sepeda was involved in an altercation with Calvin Brown, a 31-year-old male. Brown claimed that he shot Sepeda in self-defense during the confrontation.
Following the shooting, Brown attempted to conceal the evidence by using chemical cleaning agents to clean up the blood and hiding Sepeda's body in an underground cellar outside the home.
The police were called to the scene after Brown reportedly told someone that he "had to shoot someone." Upon arrival, investigators found Sepeda's body and observed signs of a cleanup attempt. Brown was arrested and charged with tampering with a corpse and murder. He was initially booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center, where his bail was set at $100,000.
The case proceeded through the legal system, and on August 17, 2023, Calvin Brown pleaded guilty to the murder of Ronald Sepeda Sr. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison for his actions. The Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit continued to investigate the case, urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
Ronald Sepeda Sr. was a beloved father, grandfather, and brother who left behind a grieving family. He was survived by his mother, Esther Sepeda, his children Ronald Sepeda Jr., Jerrod Sepeda, and Heather Sepeda, as well as his grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. His death was a tragic loss for his family and the community.
