Tim R. Lara, a 49-year-old man from Lubbock, Texas, tragically died on April 23, 2022, from gunshot wounds sustained during a shooting incident at a South Lubbock home. The incident occurred around 2:06 a.m. when police responded to a shots fired call at a residence in the 1900 block of 74th Street. Upon arrival, officers found Lara suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and immediately rendered first aid before he was transported to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced

The investigation revealed that Lara and 24-year-old Fabian Canales were involved in a domestic dispute that escalated into a physical altercation. Witnesses reported that Canales drew a 9mm pistol and shot Lara multiple times as Lara was walking toward him, although Lara was unarmed and not attempting to fight. Canales was charged with murder and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $350,000.
