On October 11, 2021, Javier Francisco Nava Mendoza, a 51-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically shot and killed in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on West Hermine Boulevard. According to reports, Javier Francisco Nava Mendoza was flagged down by two individuals while he was driving. When he stopped to speak with them, one of the suspects opened fire, shooting him inside his truck.
After being shot, his vehicle rolled and crashed into a nearby fence, coming to rest in the front yard of a home. He was found unconscious by the police and was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Javier Francisco Nava Mendoza's death led to the arrest of Auguston Kane Medelez, a 19-year-old male, who was charged with first-degree murder. Surveillance footage and several tips from the public played a crucial role in identifying Medelez as one of the suspects. The footage showed the incident, and an anonymous tip led investigators to Medelez's social media accounts, where he was found discussing the shooting. Medelez lived just a few blocks away from the crime scene, and investigators obtained a warrant for his social media accounts and phone number. On the day of the shooting, Medelez was seen talking to friends on social media, mentioning that the police were looking for him and asking if he could stay with them. He also inquired about obtaining more 9 mm ammunition, which was the same caliber bullet used in the murder.
The arrest report revealed that Medelez and another suspect had flagged down Javier Francisco Nava Mendoza with the intention of robbing him. They stole his cell phone after shooting him. The police are still searching for the second suspect involved in the incident.
