Smith's death revealed that he was involved in a separate drug-related shooting earlier that morning at 838 Oak Street. During this incident, two other individuals were also killed. As Smith attempted to flee the scene, he was shot by Gregory Pellum, who was later arrested and charged with murder. Another individual, Shannon Washington, was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence for driving the vehicle used to transport Smith's body.
