Yolanda N’Gaojia, a 52-year-old woman of African American ethnicity, tragically lost her life on March 22, 2022, in Killeen, Texas. She was visiting her son Amir's gravesite at the Calvary Baptist Church Garden of Memories Cemetery to mark what would have been his 22nd birthday. Unfortunately, she was fatally shot during this visit. The incident occurred around 5 p.m., and when police arrived at the scene, they found Yolanda and another victim with non-life-threatening injuries.
Yolanda succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The investigation into Yolanda's death revealed that she was caught in a crossfire between rival street gangs. Witnesses reported that a vehicle, later identified as a silver Mercedes, stopped in the roadway, and at least one person began shooting. The shooter was described as a tall, skinny black male with dreads. Yolanda was struck by a bullet during this exchange. Marvin Davis, who was visiting the cemetery with Yolanda, was believed to be the intended target of the shooting.
Two suspects, Demario Jabar Moore, 20, and Christin Lamar Weston, 18, were later indicted for Yolanda's murder. Moore was arrested on August 16, 2022, while Weston was detained on August 13, 2022. According to the arrest affidavit, Moore confessed to driving the vehicle used in the shooting but claimed he had no knowledge that the shooting was going to occur. Weston, who matches the description of the shooter, was also indicted on charges of murder and possession of a prohibited weapon.
