Arturo Granados, an 18-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from Round Rock, Texas, tragically died on April 19, 2022, from a gunshot wound at the Round Rock Skate Park. The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. when Granados was fatally shot in the chest during a confrontation between two groups. Witnesses reported that the shooting was unintentional, with Nicholas Carter-Cain, 19, firing his handgun after members of the other group began shooting.
Carter-Cain, who was living with Granados at the time, was later arrested and charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony.
The Round Rock Police Department responded to the scene and found Granados deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Another individual with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound was also reported at St. David's North Austin Medical Center. The investigation revealed that Carter-Cain had fired his handgun at the park, and a bullet found next to Granados' body matched the gun used by Carter-Cain. Surveillance video showed Carter-Cain running away as Granados collapsed.
Carter-Cain was arrested on August 24, 2022, and held in the Williamson County Jail with bail set at $100,000. The case was described as an isolated incident with no immediate danger to the public. The RRPD continued to seek information regarding a gray SUV believed to be connected to a drive-by shooting that occurred the day after Granados' death.
