Michael Ray Satterwhite Jr., a 31-year-old African American male from Austin, Texas, tragically lost his life on April 28, 2022. He was fatally shot in the 400 block of East Sixth Street in Austin. The Austin Police Department responded to the scene around 12:54 P.M. after receiving multiple 911 calls about gunshots fired in the area. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Satterwhite was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:08 P.M.
The investigation revealed that Eric Deon Rollins, a
51-year-old African American male, was the primary suspect in Satterwhite's murder. Rollins was also implicated in another murder that occurred just 10 minutes earlier in the 1100 block of Eastfield Avenue. The motive behind the shootings was believed to be retaliation for a robbery that took place earlier that morning. Rollins was arrested by the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force in the 500 block of West 10th Street and was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on April 29, 2022, and confirmed that Satterwhite's cause of death was a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was homicide. The case was investigated as Austin's 24th homicide of 2022.
Rollins had a prior criminal record, including a recent release from jail on an ankle monitor for an outstanding sexual assault of a child case with APD. Detectives urged anyone with information or video footage of the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
The tragic loss of Michael Ray Satterwhite Jr. left behind a grieving family, including his mother, Andrea Bryant, his stepfather, Dennis Milligan, and his three children: Zachariah Hawkins, Michael Ray Satterwhite III, and Melody Satterwhite. The community mourned the loss of a loving and kind-hearted individual who was known for his loyalty and respectfulness.
