In the late hours of a Saturday night in Griffin, Georgia, a dispute between two men who knew each other escalated into a fatal encounter. Jeremey Markivius Dugger, a 36-year-old Black male, was shot and killed on February 27, 2021. The incident occurred at the Red Roof Inn on North Expressway, where law enforcement responded to a call of shots fired at approximately 11:50 p.m.
Upon their arrival, Spalding County Sheriff's Office deputies discovered Dugger in a downstairs room, unresponsive and suffering from two gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, he was pronounced deceased at the scene at 12:10 a.m. by the Spalding County Coroner.
Witnesses at the hotel identified the suspect as 37-year-old Terrance Terrell Dixon, who was also a Black male and known to the victim. According to accounts, an argument between Dugger and Dixon preceded the shooting. Investigators believe only two shots were fired during the altercation. Following the shooting, Dixon reportedly fled the scene on foot. Authorities later recovered a handgun at the scene that they believe to be the murder weapon.
The Spalding County Sheriff's Office quickly secured arrest warrants for Dixon on charges of felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Officials indicated that additional charges could be forthcoming as the investigation progressed. At the time, law enforcement considered Dixon to be the sole suspect in Dugger's death and warned that he should be considered dangerous. Both men were described as being native to the Griffin area.
